Breaking News!! Now #PAS Appoints Mat Sabu As #Penang Commissioner to Please @dapmalaysia & @cmlimguaneng #KLChronicle

Mat Sabu is said to be loyal to Lim Guan Eng
PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu, or Mat Sabu, has been appointed PAS Penang commissioner, in what is believed to be a move to please Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and to quell tensions between the state’s grassroots leaders and the DAP-dominated state government.

Mat Sabu, who hails from Penang, enjoys strong ties with Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, as both shared the same cell when they were detained under the Internal Security Act following Operasi Lalang in 1987. In addition for Mat Sabu's loyalty to Lim Guan Eng, he was also appointed the Director of Syarikat Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang.

Mat Sabu will replace Permatang Pasir assemblyperson Datuk Mohd Salleh Man.

PAS grassroots leaders in Penang last month wanted the party to pull out of the Penang Pakatan Rakyat government, claiming the state administration had discriminated against PAS in appointing local councillors. However, with Mat Sabu now at the helm of Penang PAS, the request for additional quota in local Councillors is believed will be reduced further to please the Chinese majority state government.

The issue was also brought up at the party's annual general assembly last month, but dismissed by the senior leadership, who said PAS was actually grateful to the Penang government.
