Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed (pic) has been appointed as vice-president of Beijing-based global anti-graft body, International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA).
"This appointment shows that the international community and world organizations recognised Malaysia and MACC’s achievements in fighting graft," said MACC in announcing Abu Kassim's appointment.
It said the appointment was the second international recognition accorded to him and MACC.
The 300-member body is comprised of anti-graft agencies and anti-corruption authorities throughout the world.
In 2012, Abu Kassim was appointed vice-chairman of the Vienna-based International Anti-Corruption Academy, an educational anti-corruption institution under the auspices of the United Nations.
IAACA was established in 2006 during a special meeting at the UN office in Vienna, with Malaysia as one of its founding members. Its seeks to encourage and support the implementation of the UN Conventions Against Corruption.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak welcomed the news of Abu Kassim's appointment, describing it a "huge recognition" of Malaysia's anti-corruption efforts.
"Congrats (congratulations) Tan Sri Abu Kassim on your appointment as Vice President of IAACA. A huge recognition by the global community of Malaysia's anti-graft efforts," Najib posted on his Twitter, as quoted by Bernama. - November 25, 2013.
