The Bangladeshi High Commission here has dismissed allegations of its citizens voting in the 13th general election, calling them "absurd".
Bangladeshi High Commissioner in Malaysia AKM Atiqur Rahman said his office had no knowledge of his people voting here during the May 5 polls.
"The propaganda of Bangladeshi citizens voting in the 13th general election, is nothing but a mere fabrication by some interest groups and a sheer misrepresentation of facts," he told reporters here.
He said he found it absurd that 40,000 Bangladeshis would have come to Malaysia a week before the polls to vote.
Calling it a case of "political manipulation", he said that the portrayal of Bangladeshis as phantom voters had not only put his citizens at risk, but also created a negative image of his country.
