Periodic inspections will be carried out to ensure safety of passengers |
Anticipating a significant hike in number of passengers travelling back for Hari Raya holidays, and to avoid touts selling exorbitant ticket prices to travelers, the Barisan Nasional (BN) government under the leadership of Prime Minister Najib Razak has agreed for the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) to issue additional temporary permits or the temporary transition licence (LPS) for bus services in conjunction with the weekend long Hari Raya celebration.
Its chief executive officer, Mohd Nur Ismal Kamal, confirmed with various news outlet that the LPS would be issued if there were requests from bus companies. If there is no request, SPAD will not issue any LPS to bus operators.
“SPAD does not limit the number of buses to be used, but each application has to meet the stipulated conditions and requirements,” he said.
The LPS would be valid from July 19 until Aug 4 and applications for the permit could be made before July 24.
SPAD is expecting 1.4 million bus tickets to be sold for Aidilfitri, with 33 per cent of the tickets to the northern part of the peninsular, 30 per cent to the east coast and 37 per cent to the southern part of the peninsular
