The Pakatan Rakyat-led Selangor government will reject the impending toll hike through shares it owns in two highway concessionaires, according to opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The state government owns 30% of the Kesas highway through state-owned Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) and 20% in Sprint and the Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong (LDP) through Kumpulan Perangsang.
Anwar told reporters today that he has discussed the matter with Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, and they have agreed to use the state's minority shares to oppose the toll hike.
However, when pressed further on how the state plans to oppose the toll hike, Anwar did not respond but told reporters he will call for a press conference in the future.
"I understand that the issue will be brought to the state exco meeting today and orders will be given out to government representatives in the highway consortium involved, to reject the hike in toll," he added.
KL Chronicle: Well done Anwar Ibrahim, however we have a few questions for you:
1. Rather than opposing the toll hike, why haven't the state government sold their shares in KESAS, Sprint and LDP highway as a form of protest towards the privatization of roads done by the BN government?
2. How will the state government oppose the toll hike? Being a minority share holder who owns only 30% and 20% respectively in the concessionaire, how will Selangor influence the majority shareholders? This you kept quiet and did not share with us.
3. How did you know that the Federal Government were going to increase tariffs for KESAS, Sprint and LDP? THe GOM did not announce that this toll prices will increase so can we just say that you are pre-empting the toll hike and trying to champion something that is not yet firm?
4. With all of the above, we can conclude that this is just another public relation exercise by the opposition to rally the rakyat to go against the government. By attacking the government first and getting the rakyat by your side is a very smart move and i have to congratulate PR for that. Fantastic political maneuvering and strategy.
5. As for the government, it's agencies etc korang ni lembab lah..
