1. I refer to a recent statement issued by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (PPBM) Chairman Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, whom had apologized for all his faults during his 22 years in power as Malaysia’s Prime Minister.

2. However, typical with Dr. Mahathir, less than a few hours after apologising for his faults, Dr. Mahathir made another U - turn by saying that he did apologized but it did not necessarily mean that he was admitting to any wrongdoing during his tenure as prime minister.

3. Nevertheless, Nurul Izzah Anwar, the daughter of former Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim who was sacked by Dr. Mahathir accepted Dr Mahathir’s apology. Dr Mahathir's controversial sacking of Anwar in 1998 over corruption and sodomy charges remain a sour point among many Anwar supporters.

4. Looking at the chronology of events that happened yesterday, especially Dr. Mahathir’s speech during PPBM’s AGM, it is very obvious that Dr. Mahathir had apologized for all the power abuse he did during his time as Prime Minister. Nobody will ever forget the Memali tragedy on 19 November 1985 where Ibrahim Libya and 13 of his followers were killed and charges were made against them. They were labelled as extremists who tried to spread deviationist teachings and disrupt public order. Is this true or it was Dr. Mahathir covering up for his weaknesses?
5. On 2nd of September 1998, the then Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was sacked from his position. After his sacking, trump up charges were made against Anwar and his associates which humiliated and tarnished the image of Malaysia. The ambitions of Anwar Ibrahim to be Prime Minister was destroyed by Dr. Mahathir, just because Anwar was at that point of time became too powerful to the liking of Dr. Mahathir. An innocent man was then sent to prison.
6. Because of this exact reason, and the feeling that her family had been wronged and abused by Dr. Mahathir, Nurul Izzah accepted the apology from Dr. Mahathir. Therefore it is mind boggling and exceptionally ridiculous that now Dr. Mahathir would retract back his apology which was given yesterday. Is this not an insult to all Malaysians especially Anwar’s family?
7. I also call upon all the “moral doctors” of Pakatan Harapan, especially Lim Kit Siang, Lim Guan Eng, Tony Pua and people of their ilk to come out and condemn Dr. Mahathir. Why is these DAP leaders now keeping an elegant silence on this issue when they were the main ones using Dr. Mahathir as a punching bag to win votes in the two (2) previous General Elections i.e. GE – 12 and GE – 13. So have all this DAP leaders forgiven Dr. Mahathir for all his power abuse during his tenure as Prime Minister?
8. Notwithstanding the above. The apology by Dr. Mahathir clearly demonstrated that he had made mistakes during his Premiership and some of them was clearly against the law and criminal in nature such as the Memali incident and sacking Anwar Ibrahim with fabricated charges. Due to this, i also call upon the Inspector General of Police and Attorney General to look into these two (2) incidents and possibly a crime has been committed.
9. Finally, if Dr. Mahathir feels upset about my New Year Message to him, he is more than welcome to sue me. I still think Mahathirism shall not be allowed back into Malaysia’s society. DAP leaders have been proven to be spineless and are now all beholden to the former Prime Minister as if their lives are depending on Dr. Mahathir’s and PPBM winning the next GE.
Thank You.
