Old school buses to be replaced by new ones |
Thanks to the effort taken by Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD), the government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Haji Najib Tun Razak has allocated RM10 million for school bus operators to replace their old vehicles through the school bus replacement scheme.
In a statement that was published a few days back, SPAD was sensitive and concerned on the problems faced by school bus operators in replacing their old vehicles with new ones.
“The subsidy scheme is a government initiative to reduce the burden of bus operators with RM10,000 aid for each applicant and a low fixed interest rate of two per cent annually.”
SPAD said the efforts by operators to improve quality of service and in ensuring safety of its passengers was welcomed.
“SPAD with agreement from the Finance Ministry, has improved the scheme by giving a special approval for bus operators with buses aged below 25 years to apply through the scheme.”
Previously, the scheme was only open to operators with vehicles aged 25 years or above.
Operators are required to provide a Puspakom inspection report at any SPAD office.
The approval for the financial scheme will be done by Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN).
Interested applicants can contact the nearest SPAD office or BSN.
Effective January, school buses that are more than 30 years old will not be allowed on the road.
