History was made yesterday when  Senior Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Minister for Faith and Community, Sayeeda Warsi visited Sekolah kebangsaan (SK) Piasau in Kota Belud, Sabah. The visit by Baroness Warsi was organized by the British Council | Malaysia and also UMNO Kota Belud. Personally, i think the visit by Baroness Warsi to Kota Belud was very significant as it showed that the British Council take particular interest in rural education, thus providing suitable opportunities for our young children to go abroad for education and also expose our children to different cultures worldwide, in particular the United Kingdom (UK).

Special thanks have to also go out to Dato Abdul Rahman Dahlan, Member of Parliament (MP) for Kota Belud and Minister of Urban Well being, Housing and Local Government who had organized this event wonderfully well. The agenda for the event was properly planned so that Baroness Warsi had the opportunity to visit as many places as she could and exchange her views with as many people as she can. The main objective of the visit by Baroness Warsi to SK Piasau is to observe and monitor the English Language Teachers Development Project (ELTDP) which is a program developed by the British Council. The main purpose of having ELTDP is to improve the proficiency of rural students in reading & speaking the English language.

In my honest opinion, the ELTDP program by the British Council in Kota Belud is very good as it creates opportunity for kids in the rural areas to master English, at the same time allow British Council to further expand their programs to other rural areas in the country. In the end it will be a win-win situation for both parties.
