Menteri Kena Rajin Berfikir, Jangan Malas #KLChronicle

1. Lately Malaysians have been informed by the government of increased electricity tariff hike. A lot of people are angry with the new rates however I am not going to go into details of it.

2. I would just like to share what my thoughts are on how a) to reduce our indepence of cheap gas b) increase the revenue of Petronas/country.

3. As what I know, Gas from offshore Peninsula Malaysia lands at Kerteh and then is transported via pipeline throughout the country and into the IPPs. The gas sales price to IPP is very cheap as it is subsidies by the Government however this resulted in Petronas losing a lot of money. Petronas can sell Gas at a higher price to the open market rather than to the IPPs.

4. Malaysia has a surplus of 31% electricity. Which is good and we do not need to purchase electricity from neighbouring Thailand or Singapore in case of emergency.

5. Malaysia is a country that is blessed with sunlight all year long and in monsoon we also experience tropical rain and winds. I was thinking why not the government start to do some feasibility studies (via universities and not con-sultants) on using solar power or wind mill (wind farms). I believe in Melaka there is a solar panel farm which is good and should be developed further.

6. In korea, abouy 8% of their electricity comes from wind farms, 1 wind mill can light up 1000 homes which is fantastic. If the GOM could study this various alternatives the access gas from Petronas can then be freed to be sold to international markets and thus reduce government subsidy and increase revenue.

Our ministers has to be a little bit "rajin" to THINK and not get people to think for them. Just my 2 cents.

Note: please correct me if certain facts are wrong. Thanks! ;)
