Headmaster gets three years’ jail, RM30,000 fine for bribery #KLChronicle

#KLChronicle : Headmasters have also now resulted to taking bribes. It can be only because of two (2) things i.e. :

1. Greed
2. Not enough money

The first attribute mentioned above, if it is true then the headmaster deserved the punishment given. However, if the reason he took bribe is because of inadequate funds to to take care of his family due to the very high cost of living, than something has to be done. Too many people are complaining that things are expensive, and this might also be the reason why crime is on the riser. People just don't have enough money to feed their family. 

A 50-year-old primary school headmaster was sentenced to three years in jail and fined RM30,000 after he was found guilty of soliciting and obtaining a RM3,000 bribe involving the school canteen contract.

Sessions Court judge M. Bakri Abd. Majid ruled the defence of Abdul Samad Abdul Ghani was merely a "recent invention" to suit his story that the money was a contribution to the school.

"The court does not accept the testimonies of the defence witnesses," he said on Monday.

Abdul Samad was found guilty of soliciting RM3,000 from canteen operator Zainun Hussain at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kajang Utama in Hulu Langat on Nov 8, 2011, and obtaining the bribe at the same place on Nov 14, the same year.

The money was an inducement for him to renew the contract for the school canteen in 2013.

M. Bakri then sentenced Abdul Samad to two years in jail and RM15,000 fine for soliciting bribe and three years and RM15,000 fine for obtaining the bribe.

Both sentences are to run concurrently.

DPP Mukhriz Mat Rus prosecuted while the accused was represented by lawyer Hazman Harun.
