RapidKL
extends Rail, Bus services for New Year celebrations
Kuala Lumpur,
28 DECEMBER 2013
– Joining city folks in
celebrating New Year’s Eve, Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana),
operator of RapidKL’s rail and bus services, is extending its services in
ushering the arrival of 2014 next Wednesday.
With Kuala Lumpur city center expected
to be a hive of activities as city folk throngs in droves to join in the fun
and excitement until wee hours in the morning, RapidKL aims to facilitate
seamless travel for party-goers and all those ushering the New
Year.
“Both our Kelana Jaya and Ampang LRT
lines as well as our monorail services would be operational up to 2am on
December 31.
“Our buses would be working extra hours
as well in providing feeder services,” RapidKL spokesman Lim Jin Aun said in a
statement.
All LRT and monorail stations would be
opened up to 1am with key stations - KL Sentral, KLCC, Masjid Jamek, Hang Tuah,
Imbi, Bukit Bintang, Bukit Nanas and Titiwangsa – extending their operations by
an extra hour up to 2am.
“Despite these announced schedules, we
would monitor the ridership closely. If there is a need for further extension
to clear the crowd at our stations, we would definitely look into extending the
rail services further and inject more trains into the system.
“RapidKL bus services, on the other
hand, will be extended for another half an hour after the rail service
extension to provide transport convenience for city dwellers,” added Lim, who
is Prasarana’s Executive Vice-President for Group Communications and Strategic
Marketing.
The routes to have the extended
operations for the New Year’s Eve celebrations are Route U64, Route U66, Route
U68, Route U70, Route U22, Route U40, Route U23, Route U224, Route U6 and Route
U88.
According to Lim, based on previous
experiences, the LRT and monorail services had always been the preferred mode
of transportation for city folks with traffic in the city coming to almost a
standstill in key areas in view of road closures for the celebrations.
“Hence, our sincere advice to all city
folks wishing to usher in the New Year in the city on December 31 will be to
use public transport. If you really need to drive, park your cars at the LRT
stations and board our trains.
“It would also be best for the commuters
to travel with MyRapid Cards to ensure smooth passage at the stations. If
necessary, reload your cards at your entry stations. You would not want to
spending time queuing for tickets at the stations.
“For those who have yet to own a MyRapid
Card, you can easily get them at our counters. Alternatively, we would also
have special kiosks selling the cards that night,” Lim said, adding that it would
also be beneficial for RapidKL commuters to follow MyRapidKL on twitter and its
Facebook to get all the latest updates of its services.
“We would be advising our commuters on
all the operation updates through our Twitter and Facebook. So, join us at Twitter
and ‘Like’ our Facebook page now and you will get all the service updates on
your fingertips,” he adding that commuters with smart phones could also install
the RapidKL travel guide apps.
