We at the #KLChronicle would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Minister of Transport, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, Department of Civil Aviation and not to forget the staff at Ministry of Transport (Malaysia) for their exemplary and quick action in completing the initial investigations into the helicopter crash which killed Rompin MP Tan Sri Jamaluddin Jarjis and five others on April 4, 2015.
Based on the initial findings, according to Department of Civil Aviation director of flight operations sector Datuk Yahaya Abdul Rahman said that the Eurocopter Dauphine's left stabiliser had weakened when the helicopter made a landing on an open field in Muadzam, midway in its journey from Pekan to Kuala Lumpur.
"The initial investigation also revealed that the stabiliser detached from the machine five seconds before it dived," said Yahaya.
The result of the investigation came only about 40 days after the helicopter crash and the initial investigation results shows that there were no any form of sabotage to the helicopter by anyone. The main cause of the crash was due to a damaged left stabilizer located under the helicopter tail. For those who are not sure what a helicopter stabilizer looks like, please see picture below:
The main purpose of a stabilizer is to give the helicopter stability during hovering and also during flight and is considered one of the most important parts of a helicopter. To think of it our local team in M.O.T that came to this very technical conclusion is a very proud moment. It shows that the experts we have in M.O.T are able to analyze issues, find the root cause of the problem and come up with a comprehensive report detailing their findings. Mind you this investigation was conducted 100% by local talent in MOT. What an achievement in itself!
