The Barisan Nasional government, via SPAD has now announced that the double railway track from Ipoh to Padang Besar have been completed. The next phase will be the commissioning of the ETS train service from Ipoh to Padang Besar. For us at the #KLChronicle, we think this is fantastic as people would now be able to travel directly from KL Sentral to Padang Besar by ETS which is definitely faster. 

Future of Malaysia Public Transportation System

We have had experience in travelling using the ETS from KL Sentral to Batu Gajah previously and the time taken was about an hour or so which is fantastic. The price was about RM 30 (to be confirmed) and was much more cheaper compared to driving to Batu Gajah. Besides the cost, the plus point is also that travelling by ETS would be much more safer rather than travelling by car, don't you agree?

Tan Sri Syed Hamid announced the ETS service to Padang Besar next year

Now, in our opinion, the development of ETS from Ipoh to Padang Besar is a commendable effort by the government. What also caught us by surprise was the announcement by Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar, Chairman of SPAD who said that SPAD and the government is lin fact also looking to upgrade to the double railway track from Gemas to Johor Baru.  Once this is done, the time taken to travel from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore will reduce thus greatly benefiting the people of this country. 

In summary, these past few weeks we have seen a lot of news with respect to Malaysia's public transportation system. First starting from the award of "Shadow Operator" to Prasarana Malaysia Berhad for the Makkah Metro, then the awards to Sani Express and Transnasional Berhad for exceptional service and finally the ETS system. Malaysia it seems is going all out to provide affordable, safe and reliable public transport system to its public and we hope and pray this will forever continue.
