KTMB Instructed to Partially Close Gemas - Gua Musang Railway Line

Condition of the deteriorated railway line (Source, NST)
Due to the latest train derailment of Express Wau  from Kuala Lumpur to Tumpat on the 8th of July 2014 at Kemayan, KTMB has today been instructed to partially close the Gemas-Gua Musang Railway line. This is to allow KTMB to continue monitoring and execute repair works on the affected lines during the day before allowing trains to operate at night. The previous article can be read [HERE].

The instruction for KTMB to partially close it Gemas - Gua Musang comes from the Public Land Transport Authority (SPAD) which took seriously the derailment that happened on the 8th of July. Documents that i have sighted confirmed that there was prior engagement between KTMB and SPAD where on the 26th June 2014, SPAD agreed with KTMB's proposal to close the Gemas - Gua Musang line on 15 August 2014, after the Hari Raya celebrations.

However, looking at the recent incident and the risk that passengers will be facing when they travel home for the Hari Raya celebrations, SPAD had to take the unpopular decision in partially closing the line to ensure no future untoward incidents were to happen that could cause lose of property and life to the public.Basically it is all about to protect the safety of passengers using the KTMB East-Coast line.

Notwithstanding the above, to mitigate the issue faced by passengers & commuters, KTMB has also been instructed to develop a comprehensive communication plan to inform passengers on this latest development and reschedule its east coast train schedule.

Latest development on KTMB train schedule can be obtained from its website : http://www.ktmb.com.my/index.php/2013-10-22-03-44-57/east-south-route
