@LiowTiongLai : Experts confirm debris almost certainly from MH370

We at #KLChronicle refer to the Press Statement released by the Honorable Transport Minister of Malaysia Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai who have confirmed that the two pieces of debris discovered in South Africa and the Mauritian island of Rodrigues are consistent with panels found on a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 aircraft. This important piece of discovery concludes that flight MH370 ended in the Southern Indian Ocean as what was told previously.

We would also like to express our gratitude to Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai who continue to monitor the search mission of Flight MH370 even after nearly a year it went missing from the flight radar. This demonstrates the commitment of the Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and the government in finding closure for the Next of Kin (NOKs). They were never once being "abandoned".

To the family members and NOKs of Flight MH370. We at #KLChronicle will never understand the feeling that you have gone through, all the pain and anguish at losing your loved ones. However, in Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai you have someone who is committed to assist you together with external parties from Australia and China to get answers on what really happened on that fateful evening.

The ministry, has and will always prioritize the needs of the NOKs and will continue with the search of Flight MH370 even though until now the cost of searching for Flight MH370 has breached the USD 130 Million (RM520 million) mark, which is a huge amount for a country like Malaysia. Nevertheless, the government continue to pour money into the search as a mark of responsibility towards the NOKs.

Thank You Malaysia!

PRESS STATEMENT BY DATUK SERI LIOW TIONG LAI

Examinations of the two pieces of debris discovered in South Africa and the Mauritian island of Rodrigues, which were an engine cowling piece with a partial Rolls-Royce logo and an interior panel piece from an aircraft cabin respectively, were completed by a team of international experts in Australia.

Following a thorough examination, the Malaysian ICAO Annex 13 Safety Investigation Team have concluded that both pieces of debris are consistent with panels found on a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 aircraft.

As such, the team has confirmed that both pieces of debris from South Africa and Rodrigues Island are almost certainly from MH370. This complements the results from the previous examination in March during which the team confirmed that the Mozambique debris were almost certainly from MH370.

We wish to express our sincere gratitude to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB), Geoscience Australia and Boeing for their undivided commitment and assistance in this examination process.

We also thank the Governments of Mozambique, Mauritius and South Africa for the efforts and cooperation extended to Malaysia in this matter.

The Governments of Malaysia, Australia and China continue to be wholly committed to the search for MH370. To date, more than 105,000 square kilometres of the search area have been completed.
