#KLChronicle : There you go. Officially from Mukhriz Mahathir. The attempt to unseat PM Najib Razak was in 2014. Wait a minute, but the 1MDB issue exploded only in 2015. So it was not about 1MDB after all but 1MDB was just used as a "smoke screen" for Dr. Mahathir to make his move against the democratically elected Prime Minister.
Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir testified at the High Court here that his father Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had plans to topple Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak since 2014.
Mukhriz was replying to a question by Datuk Seri Tengku Sarifuddin Tengku Ahmad's lawyer Datuk Seri Jahaberdeen Mohamed Yunoos on whether he agreed with his suggestion that the former premier had attempted to topple Najib from 2015.
The former Kedah mentri besar agreed with the suggestion, but added that the plan likely began in 2014.
To a question as to whether the plan was made known to the public and published in the mainstream media and on social media, he said, "Yes".
He also agreed that Dr Mahathir and former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had plans to topple Najib, but denied that they had "conspired" to do so.
The Ayer Hitam assemblyman said this while testifying in his defamation suit against Najib's press secretary Tengku Sarifuddin over two allegedly libellous media statements made against him on April last year.
Earlier during examination-in-chief by his lawyer Mohammed Haniff Khatri Abdulla, Mukhriz alleged that the defendant (Tengku Sarifuddin) had tried to tarnish his reputation.
In the lawsuit, Mukhriz claimed he had given notice through a media statement on April 21 asking Tengku Sarifuddin to retract his statements or risk legal action.
The plaintiff claimed that the statements implied that he was directly involved with Muhyiddin and Dr Mahathir in a bid to topple the Government.
