PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has broken ranks with the federal opposition, backing Najib Abdul Razak to stay on as prime minister.
"He should not succumb to pressure and he should be allowed to solve the problems he is facing.
"I agree with him that he should not step down and I must say that he should be given a chance to finish his term," he was quoted as saying in Kuala Terengganu by The Star Online.
The PAS Presidents support comes after the the Umno Supreme Council expressed renewed support for the party president and deputy president in its meeting yesterday, adding that those who spread rumours about the meeting today would be disappointed by its outcome.
“The Supreme Council expressed renewed support for the president and the deputy president. The Supreme Council wants the president, deputy president, the council and all Umno leaders to unite as a team to face all the challenges and take positive action to strengthen Umno and Barisan Nasional’s position among the people,” said Najib.
In addition, No one in the Umno supreme council meeting yesterday asked for party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak to step down, Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said, adding that rumours of a revolt against the prime minister were baseless.
