@tonyfernandes has been reluctant to move to KKIA from Terminal 2 |
The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) has urged AirAsia to move its operations to the main terminal of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport instead of staying at Terminal 2.
President Hamzah Rahmat said the current terminal was too congested and at certain times, inconvenienced passengers.
"We understand that budget airline passengers are price sensitive and higher airport taxes can be a deterrent. But, many would rather pay than endure the appalling conditions at the old terminal," he said in a statement today.
He said due to road traffic leading to Terminal 2, many passengers had missed their flights in not being able to reach the airport on time.
Arriving passengers, he added, had to also wait longer to retrieve their checked-in luggage.
"The middle-class from China and India will be coming to our shores in bigger waves and AirAsia can provide the connectivity. But they will feel foolish if we cramp them into Terminal 2, when the main terminal is underutilised," Hamzah said.
