Signalling PASMA, PAS Ulama Wing Declares War on 'Pro-Pakatan' forces

The PAS ulama council today launched an all-out attack on Persatuan Ummah Sejahtera Malaysia (PasMa), demanding that disciplinary action be taken against those involved with the pro-Pakatan Rakyat faction.

Acting ulama council chief Datuk Ahmad Yakob said the move was important to ensure that no one would take advantage of the party's struggle to uphold Islam.
Ahmad, who is also the Kelantan menteri besar, also touched on claims by PAS Kuantan Youth over a movement to overthrow party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.
He said an internal investigation should be carried out to put a stop to the accusation.
"If the claim is true, we ask for the accusers to lodge a disciplinary report to ensure that the matter is prolonged and internal investigations be carried out."
"After the report has been made, the Ulama council hopes that the investigation will be given priority and, if needed, form a special committee that will not involve the central committee," he said in his opening speech at the Multaqa Ulama Semalaysia II, in Serdang, Selangor.
He said the ulama council took the claim seriously as it involved disobedience and behaviour that could tarnish the party's image.
He said PAS upheld the “listen and obey” concept towards the party’s highest leadership, the shura council, and the president.
He added that any disobedience to the council or the president was an offence regardless of the circumstance.
Ahmad said PasMa appeared to be making an effort to destroy and split the party from within.
"This can be seen from many statements by PasMa's members that clearly attack and disobeyed PAS's principles. Worst of all, they hurled words of insult at clerics in the party.
"Today, we see the attack being aimed at Kelantan state government's plan to amend the Shariah Criminal Code 1993. I have firmly stated that the state government will implement the hudud in 2015," he said.
He added that the “liberal thinking” of the faction is similar to that of Umno and non-Muslims who disproved of PAS’s move to implement hudud. And that thinking was spreading within the party.

PasMa was set up on August 31 last year with the objective of ensuring PAS remains with Pakatan. It is led by Pengkalan Kundor assemblyman Datuk Phahrolrazi Zawawi (pic, right).
More than 100 PAS members convened in Kota Baru that day to form PasMa, in response to speculation that the Islamist party was considering joining Umno to resolve the Selangor menteri besar tussle.
The country’s wealthiest state last year was embroiled in a political stalemate after the then Selangor menteri besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim was sacked by his party, PKR.
PAS was at odds with colleagues, DAP and PKR, over who should lead the state. PasMa was created by some within the Islamist party to ease those tensions.
But critics of PasMa have accused the faction of being made up of members frustrated that they had no leading role in the party
