The former political secretary to Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, Nik Nazmi has now started his attack on Khalid Ibrahim by saying the Selangor menteri besar had never shown interest in attending PKR leadership meetings and had even made disparaging remarks about his party.

"I would make sure to brief Khalid on what had transpired at all these meetings. What was shocking to me was that he would not only dismiss the issues raised as trifles but also make disparaging remarks about the party," said Seri Setia assemblyman Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, writing in The Malaysian Insider today.

Nik Nazmi, who is also the Selangor deputy speaker, a position that was given to him by Khalid Ibrahim, was  Khalid's political secretary in 2008, just after Pakatan Rakyat came to power in the state, a change which saw Khalid being made the MB.

Following Khalid's dismissal from PKR on August 9, party secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution said that Khalid had always been absent from PKR's weekly political bureau meetings, and only attended 42 out of 136 meetings held.

"We had to loosen the rules and instead summon Selangor executive committee members or Khalid’s officers to sit in on our meetings so that he was informed of the issues and criticisms regarding the state.

“We did this for two, three years, but there was no change," Saifuddin told a PKR ceramah.

Nik Nazmi, who was replaced in 2010 as Khalid's political secretary by Faekah Hussin, recalled that staff would put the political bureau meetings in Khalid's schedule, making sure that they never clashed with his other appointments.

"We would give him ample notice and reminders of them. He would agree to go but I would invariably find out that he did not.

"This episode repeated itself time and time again. It came to a point where I basically ended up having to go on his behalf, becoming a liaison of sorts between the MB and the party," said Nik Nazmi.

"His attitude was basically that the party was always wrong about everything and he was always right."

Nik Nazmi, however, disagreed with assertions by Khalid's supporters that the former corporate leader was "a disinterested technocrat" who was not interested in politickings, saying the party's dossier on Khalid's wrongdoings would show otherwise.

"He is supposedly 'above politics' and 'puts the people first'. However, the document highlights some very disturbing lapses in this regard," added the second-term Selangor assemblyman.

PKR's dossier against Khalid among others questioned his out-of-court settlement of an RM59.5 million debt with Bank Islam, as well as other administrative decisions he took without consulting the Pakatan leadership.

The party had endorsed its president Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as Khalid's replacement for the state's top post, but Khalid yesterday met with the Selangor Sultan to convince the ruler that he still commands majority support in the state assembly. – August 12, 2014.
