DAP today demanded an immediate and unconditional release of the 154 Penang Voluntary Patrol Squad (PPS) members who were arrested by police today.

Party national legal bureau chief Gobind Singh Deo (pic) said the image of the police force have been tarnished with the arrest of the PPS members.

KLChronicle says: The image of the Police Force does not get "tarnished" overnight due to the arrest of PPS members. PPS itself is an ILLEGAL entity thus the Police Force have to act. The IGP has even warned the Penang State Government, but as usual the Penang government was to arrogant to adhere to the advice given. 

"Police action today made an utter and total mockery of Putrajaya's call to the public to fight crime together with the authorities," Gobind said, in a statement.

"Instead of arresting criminals, police decide to act against citizens who are committed to assisting authorities to fight crime."

"What has been achieved by arresting members of the public who are sincere in assisting the effort to keep their state safe?

KLChronicle says: How can Gobind say that PPS is "sincere  in assisting the effort to keep their state safe" when PPS has been found guilty of assaulting reporters and members of the public for just questioning the Chief Minister of Penang? In fact PPS is the main reason why the people of Penang live in fear of the Chief Minister and the DAP party.  

"What violent or terrible crimes have these PPS members committed to the extent they are arrested and kept in the lock-up?" Gobind asked.

KLChronicle says: Seriously? Have you not read the papers?  %$#$%

Gobind wondered whether resident associations who participated in community patrolling in their neighbourhoods faced the same fate as PPS members.

"Many housing areas have become gated communities with security guards employed to keep the robbers at bay," he said.

Moreover, Gobind said, residents in these housing areas have also banded together to patrol together at night to keep their families safe.

KLChronicle says: Gobind Singh Deo is trying to confuse the people. The Rukun Tetangga's are a group of people who band together to assist in maintaining safety and peace in their neighbourhood together with the police force. They are not a bunch of people who simply go and whack people for no apparent reason like what PPS is doing. 

The mass PPS arrests is another unfortunate example of how Putrajaya has made Malaysia the laughing stock of the world, Gobind said.

"We are probably the only country in the world who arrests its own citizens who give freely of their time to fight crime and keep our streets safe," he said.

KLChronicle says: Freely? are you sure its free when the CM has committed in using public funds , yes PUBLIC funds to pay for this PPS "volunteers" 

Yesterday, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng had criticised police for declaring the PPS an illegal organisation.

Lim vowed that the Penang government would pay for legal aid if police arrested PPS members for non-criminal wrongdoings.

KLChronicle says: Pay using whose money? The CM's money, DAP's money or the Rakyat's money? why does the rakyat that needs to bailout PPS when this whole scheme was the brainchild of the chief minister and his people in DAP?'

Earlier, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had told Bernama that PPS had strayed from its original objectives after police reports were lodged against its members.

PPS members were alleged to have assaulted journalists and members of the public, which prompted the lodging of several police reports. – August 21, 2014.
