Controversial opposition politician Tony Pua (pic) invitation to speak at a conference in Melbourne, Australia today has been retracted by the organizing committee.
The Petaling Jaya MP, who had been invited to speak at the Malaysia Summit Australia (MASA) Conference on April 22, was informed two days ago that the main sponsors of the event felt that “it was not in the best interest of everyone” to have him in the line-up of panellist.
Among the event sponsors are Shell Malaysia, Astro, Education Malaysia Australia, Ayam Brand, Malaysian Australian Alumni Council and Kelab Umno Australia.
In a letter to Pua, student organisers Malaysia Students Council of Australia wrote: "our main sponsors strongly feel that it was not in the best interest of everyone to have you in the line-up of panellists."
The other personalities scheduled to attend the conference are influential Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and Human Rights Activist Marina Mahathir, daughter of Malaysia's former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who will speak on the topic “Vision 2020: Reality or Just A Dream?”
