@khalid_ibrahim Hits Back At Opposition Supporters, Says MoU on Water Restructuring Binding and Irrevocable #KLChronicle

The agreement to restructure Selangor's water industry is binding and irrevocable despite it being a memorandum of understanding (MoU), as both the federal and state governments are committed to carrying it out, says Pakatan Rakyat Kajang By Election Director and Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

Khalid was responding to criticism that the MoU was not binding.

He said the agreement spelled out in clear terms what each party, namely the federal government and the state administration, had to deliver.

Khalid said the commitment from the federal government was clear, as stated by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who said Selangor must implement what was promised in the MoU which was to approve the Langat 2 water treatment plant project.

At the same time, the federal government has given Selangor the power to take over from four private operators the management of treating and supplying water to more than seven million residents in the Klang Valley and Putrajaya.

"The agreement is irrevocable. We had insisted that the term ‘irrevocable’ be included in the MoU," Khalid told reporters at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam today.

Khalid’s insistence today further indicates that the water restructuring exercise will go on despite swirling talk that he may not remain as menteri besar after the Kajang by-election.

PKR has admitted that the controversial March 23 by-election was to pave the way for Khalid’s boss in PKR, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to take over as menteri besar.

Yesterday, Muhyiddin had said the MoU was binding on the state government even if there was a change of menteri besar.
