Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir said among the efforts of the state government in assisting to raise the income of padi farmers is to eliminate the middlemen in padi sales.
He said the purchase of padi could proceed without the middllemen and in their absence, farmers would get the returns according to their harvest price.
"This will give them more profits," he said when interviewed on Radio Televisyen Malaysia's (RTM) Landscape programme aired over RTM1 Friday night.
The programme on the national political and economic scenario and current issues was jointly compered by Shuhaimi Mohamed and Sayed Munawar Sayed Mustar.
Asked on the welfare of the community in the Sungai Limau state constituency which comprised 92% Malays, 8% Chinese, 0.14% Indians and the balance made up of other races, Mukhriz said there was no difference in welfare distribution among the various communities in the constituency.
"All races gave their undivided cooperation and support to Barisan Nasional (BN) and we appreciate the people's contribution if we win the by-election," he said. - Bernama, November 2, 2013.
