KUALA LUMPUR, 13 December – Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) - leader in Malaysia’s urban public transport transformation – has been accorded with the prestigious European Society for Quality Research (ESQR) award in recognition of its exemplary management strategies and its vast contribution to the public transport industry.

Prasarana was honoured with the Quality Choice Prize 2016 along with other leading organizations from all over the world at ESQR’s Convention and Award Giving Ceremony, which was held last night (December 12) at the Grand Hyatt Berlin in Germany.

Prasarana was represented by its President and Group CEO Dato’ Sri Azmi Abdul Aziz, who was present to receive the award from the organisers.

Commenting on the award, Azmi said that he was thrilled to represent Prasarana in accepting the award, which he said, was a testament of recognition of the brilliant minds, creative skills,   tireless efforts and solid dedication of each and every single staff of Prasarana and its subsidiary companies.

“The award endorses all the management initiatives undertaken by Prasarana and its subsidiaries companies in transforming the Group especially with the fresh mandate given by Government to Prasarana and its key partners to take the country’s public transport system to world class standards and to act as a catalyst for national progress, economic development and the people’s well-being. In receiving, this award, I must thank and congratulate the Malaysian Government for their firm belief that the future for the country’s prosperity and progress was through its Government Transformation Plan, which forms the basis of our own Prasarana Transformation Plan,” he said.

Accorded with the highest award on Skill Training – ‘Anugerah Perdana Menteri - Tokoh Mahir 2016’ in celebrations of this year’s Workers’ Day, Azmi, who took over the leadership of Prasarana in January 2015, reshaped the management strategies of the Group by immediately establishing a special Transformation taskforce that immediately evaluated the entire processes within the Group and its subsidiaries before putting up recommendations to yield greater revenue, generate better savings and higher productivity.

Recognising the effectiveness of the task force, which works closely with the President and Group CEO’s office, the unit has now being promoted to a full-fledged Division and led by Transformation Chief and supported by a team of young social-media savvy executives.

Taking Prasarana to new heights, Azmi initiated various collaborations with international partners and rail operators to form win-win collaborations in terms of sharing of expertise and knowledge; generating bigger revenue and enhancing the manpower skills and technical capabilities.
