Wan Azizah : Dr Mahathir is weak

It is former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who needs the support of the Opposition and not the other way around, says Pakatan Harapan.

“How many MPs does he have? It is he who needs us,” Opposition leader Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail told a press conference at the Parliament lobby yesterday.

She claimed that the citizens’ declaration led by Dr Mahathir served as an admission that the Barisan Nasional system has destroyed the country.

“Our views remain the same. One of our main agenda is to secure the release of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from prison.

“He is a political victim and needs to be freed,” the Permatang Pauh MP said.

On whether Dr Mahathir was agreeable to this, Dr Wan Azizah said it did not matter what he thinks about it.

“With regard to whether or not I have forgiven him (Dr Mahathir), it is not about vengeance or revenge. It is about the country,” she said.

She said that although there would be disagreements on certain matters, it would be “business as usual” as long as the fundamentals were the same.

PKR strategic director Rafizi Ramli said the declaration was just a repetition of what the Opposition has been talking about all along.

“What makes it significant is that Barisan and Umno leaders have come on board,” he said.
