Illegal Taxi Operators Under Surveillance in Johor Bahru

Illegal taxis in Johor Bahru are famous for ferrying passengers to Singapore
Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) has today confirmed that it is currently monitoring two (2) groups of illegal taxi operators in Johor Bahru. SPAD chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar said the operators, including some who operate from abroad, offer their service online and use private vehicles.

"They claim that their taxi service is above any system and does not come under the jurisdiction of SPAD.

"If you take a passenger and accept payment, then you are under the public transport system and subjected to laws of land public transport," Syed Hamid told reporters after breaking of fast with public transport operators, in Johor Baharu, Monday.

He reminded users of illegal tax service that they were not covered by insurance if the taxi was involved in an accident.
