MY PERSONAL THOUGHTS ON BERSIH 3.0 — ASOHAN ARYADURAY

APRIL 29 — I was there with a fraternity of media advocates and journalists — some practising, some no longer — and their friends and family. Kee Thuan Chye, author of “No More Bullshit”, was our unofficial leader.
This was drummed into the crowd many times.
At Central Market, prior to the protestors moving to the vicinity of Dataran Merdeka, Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan and other Bersih organisers reiterated many times that we were not to breach the barriers at Dataran, and that we will not break any laws. “Malaysians are a peaceful people,” she said. It was very important that the protest be peaceful and lawful.
There was a fantastic spirit amongst the people. People were well-behaved, and we all felt good. Off-the-cuff, we even started singing an improvised Bersih football supporters’ song. Malaysians were standing up for themselves, and standing with each other. Race did not matter. It was like a Muhibbah dream come true, but a 1 Malaysia nightmare for the Najib Administration. People always unite when they have a common external adversary, and in case, it was the electoral system here.
Except that we were not *that* united. Elements in the crowd were confusing the issue. By the time we had reached Masjid Jamek, there were pockets of people shouting “Fuck Lynas,” “Hancur BN” and that late 1990s terminally ill horse, “Reformasi.” Many genuine Bersih supporters shook their heads quietly at that, but nobody was going to gainsay another’s right to freedom of expression, I guess.
Our group was inadvertently scattered before the first teargas attacks. The people tried to disperse peacefully, and may succeeded in doing so. But more teargas bombs were fired. There was very little time or space to manoeuvre. Those who managed to make it into quiet corners and alleys to recover were attacked again and again by fumes of drifting teargas. It felt like an unending onslaught. Many people began murmuring. The Barisan Nasional’s attempt to portray Bersih 3.0 as an anti-government rally was becoming true in a self-fulfilling sort of way. A Malay youth next to me shouted “Benci Polis!”
So many felt betrayed and angry. Even me.
But now I see videos of protestors breaking down the barriers and committing acts of violence. And yes, while the police showed more restraint this time, they were behind some of these as well. BBC journalists reported via Skype that their equipment was smashed by policemen to prevent them recording some of these acts of violence.
We expected that from the Government, but having cast the first stone, those protestors have now undermined Bersih by painting as true all the Government’s fabricated arguments against the movement. Even some of the international media, inadvertently Bersih’s greatest allies if only by dint of their independence and reach, are reporting that the protest turned violent, forcing the police to act.
Despite suffering from the effects of teargas, I myself have not the spirit to summon the moral indignation I would like to have, because although they should have done so lawfully, I cannot blame the police for taking action against violent protestors.
Thanks to these “supporters,” Bersih has lost the moral momentum it has been gaining since the first rally prior to the 12th General Election. These “supporters” have now put Bersih in an untenable position: How do we proceed from here? If the Government refuses to address the eight-point manifesto; if the Parliamentary Select Committee fails to enact any real reforms; if the Administration waffles and procrastinates … what do we do now?
Call for another peaceful assembly?
These “supporters” have betrayed the Malaysian Rakyat. I am not sure if my eyes are tearing up now because of the remnants of the teargas I got hit with.

[PICTURE] POLICE BASHED BY BERSIH SUPPORTERS

The picture below shows a police office being bashed up by Bersih 3.0 supporters. If Bersih supporters still can't admit that this happen and happened because of them, i really do not know what to say except that you are a bunch of hypocrites. You shout about the rule of law, justice and what not but in the end turn violent against our own police force.

Oh and most of you on twitter who feel uncomfortable with what i am writing or exposing, i really don't care. This is my right to speak up of what i think. Please do not be a hypocrite and say that only you have the right to freedom of expression, i do as well and it is all enshrined in our constitution.

[CONCLUSION] - BERSIH 3.0 A FAILURE

BERSIH had targeted a total of 500,000 participants - at least. But it seems, until this article was written this morning, Malaysian Insider reported only 25.000 people had attended the rally.   The tactic of trying to provoke the  authorities in Kuala Lumpur failed badly. Nevertheless, due to the disappointment  of Bersih's supporters, the authorities were bashed, and cars were overturned in rage. Nearly 20 police man were admitted to hospital, and two (2) are in ICU.

Let's look at some figures that of interest. The number of registered voters in Malaysia is 12.5 million and Bersih only managed to gather 25,000 people. This is a mere 0.002% of the total registered voters.

Thus, what means these figures?

  • BERSIH have failed once again.
  • BERSIH is not getting the support of the majority.
  • As PR masterminded BERSIH, it means also, the majority of people do not support PR.

And this means, if the election was held in the near future, Barisan Nasional (BN) would win the election hands down.

It has to be understood that  street demonstrations, chaos and violence are more important for  BERSIH and PR because they knew they could not stand a chance to win in the coming general election. Unless they stage a coup and this is very unlikely to happen.

Ambiga should not lie or deny this fact, what is she actually fighting for? Electoral reform? why now? the Parliament Select committee has addressed almost all of the issues Bersih brought forward, SPR has also rebuked all the allegations made by Bersih and the opposition, which  i have highlighted in this blog previously.

Looking at how things turned up yesterday, would the opposition or Ambiga man enough to take responsibility and admit they were wrong? Ambiga said Bersih is a NGO with 84 other bodies, but why the hell did Azmin Ali gave a speech ? and there were chants of 'Reformasi", "Hidup Anwar", "Tumbang BN" and etc?

If Ambiga is now telling that she can't control the crowd, why the hell in the first place do it at Dataran Merdeka when the government had proposed threee (3) nearby stadiums? Which in turned is more controlled and crowds can be checked ?

As a conclusion, Bersih 3.0 failed miserably and the rally yesterday was hijacked by the opposition. The argument now if Ambiga is telling us that Bersih is non political is utter rubbish. I hope she takes responsibility for what happened yesterday.

To the government of Malaysia, please arrest those who have broken the law.

Thank You.

[PICTURE] POLICE ATTACKED BY BERSIH 3.0 SUPPORTERS

A police car was overturned by Bersih 3.0 supporters

Today we saw a number of Malaysian's take to the street in support of Bersih 3.0. Although this was allowed by the government, it is so disappointing to see that Bersih 3.0 supporters behaving like this. My question is this, will Ambiga Sreenavasan be responsible for all the damage that was done in Kuala Lumpur today? A policemen was injured and taken to hospital after he was attacked by Bersih 3.0 protesters? What has Ambiga and the Bar Council has got to say about this?

Peaceful demonstration my foot!

[EKSKLUSIF] PENAJA BERSIH 3.0 DIBONGKAR

Program tersebut melibatkan Research for Social Advancement (REFSA), BERSIH Amnesty International Malaysia (AIM), All Women’s Action Society (AWAM), Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ), Komuniti Masyarakat (KOMAS), Persatuan Kesedaran Komuniti Selangor (EMPOWER), Suara Rakyat Malaysia (SUARAM), Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO), Writer’s Alliance for Media Independence (WAMI), Bar Council dan beberapa yang lain.

Inilah sedikit sebanyak tentang siapa penaja BERSIH.

SPR MENJAWAB FITNAH PEMBANGKANG - PART 11

Dakwaan 11:

SPR MENJAWAB FITNAH PEMBANGKANG - PART 10

Dakwaan 10:

SPR MENJAWAB FITNAH PEMBANGKANG - PART 9

Dakwaan 9:

COMMENTS IN MALAYSIA TODAY - “FUCK ALL THE MALAYS?”

Comments in Malaysia today after Tunku Abdul Aziz said he did not support Bersih 3.0:

written by ElysianSteal, April 26, 2012 18:52:27
Yes f*ck all the Malays in DAP. They should not have an opinion different from the party. Let me tell you why:

1. DAP should not trust their Malay members, they are just trojans (per Rakyat rep @Concerned_Citizen, @ross, @BR8804).

2. They should all leave DAP if they want to think differently (per Rakyat rep @jimmy lim). We don't need people like you, go back to your hometown. Remember when you join DAP, this is not the freedom of speech allowed to you, Tunku, because the moment Malays in DAP open their mouths to talk about principles then they will begin to look stupid.

3. Anyway, Malays, based on their performance and past behavior in UMNO/BN have no principles, or doesn't understand laws. (per Rakyat rep @eloofk, @Saint, @prestonwa, @crookinparadise, @kokeeism)

4. When it comes to Rakyat, Malays in DAP who think they are law-makers should not stand by stupid principles and should always allow Rakyat to break the law. It's not your job to tell us we are wrong, see #3. Since we are your new masters, and you are our slave, we the Rakyat can kill, rape, destroy, pillage and plunder anything we want to. OK? Got that old man? (per Rakyat rep @Non sequitur, @Aku, @petman)

5. All DAP Malays (especially the ones who turn out to be stupid) please just shut the f*ck up... our Rakyat rep @crookinparadise is trying to think with his penis, you see, can't spell election anymore (spells them erection), because you're so loud.

Tunku is a dinosaur living in Jurrasic Period. He does not seem to see the whole picture of who is breaking the laws and who not. The Rakyat has run out of avenue and has no choice but to claim back its rights for a sound and healthy democracy in this beloved nation.

SPR MENJAWAB FITNAH PEMBANGKANG - PART 8

Dakwaan 8:

DAP’s Tunku Abdul Aziz says against Bersih 3.0

KUALA LUMPUR, April 26 — Veteran DAP leader Senator Tunku Abdul Aziz appeared today to break ranks with his party leadership over its backing of Bersih 3.0 this Saturday, claiming the event encourages Malaysians to “break the law”.
“My opposition to this kind of demonstration is — we are encouraging people to break the law and we are supposed to be lawmakers.
“I think there is a contradiction here,” he said.
“I am in favour of us assembling if that is not breaking the law but breaking the law is something that I cannot support.”
Tunku Abdul Aziz makes a point why he is against the Bersih 3.0 rally to reporters in Kuala Lumpur on April 26, 2012. — Picture by Jack Ooi
The DAP vice-chairman, who is among the few Malays in the Chinese-dominated party, had declared his stand this afternoon at the Dewan Negara sitting here during the ongoing debate on the royal address.
Speaking to reporters at the Parliament lobby later, Tunku noted that this was his personal stand on the issue, which he has conveyed to his colleagues in the DAP leadership.
“Well, I’ve told them that I am opposed [to Bersih 3.0].
“I am opposed to this on a personal basis as a matter of personal principle.... what the party wants to do —- that’s the party’s decision,” he said.
The senior leader noted that although most street demonstrations start off with peaceful intentions, they often turn out to be violent and chaotic.
“Now, when something happens, who is going to take responsibility?
“The person or the people who organise it will probably not be there. Who will be looking after the casualties, people who are injured, people who are trampled upon?
“The tendency is to blame the authorities and I think this is not fair,” he said.
Tunku Abdul Aziz labelled election watchdog Bersih “irresponsible” for refusing to budge from its plan to use Dataran Merdeka for the “sit-in” protest, pointing out that the authorities have already offered alternative venues.
“The whole idea is to protest. Does it matter where the protesting is done?” he pointed out.
But he also stressed that he was in full support of an individual’s constitutional right to assembly, provided that this right is exercised within the confines of the law.
He said the police were a legally established authority and Bersih 3.0’s organisers should accept their advice on the suitable venue for the event.
“The law provides for us to assemble but what I am saying is — who is responsible for security in our country? The police.
“Whatever we do, we have to consult the police. If they advise us — maybe you have to change your route, maybe you should do it somewhere else — that’s what we should do, because to go against the police... they are an established legal authority,” he said.
Asked for alternative ways for Bersih to air its grouses over the country’s failure to reform the polls process, Tunku Abdul Aziz said: “There must be other ways without getting on the streets.”
He pointed out that those who oppose to the country’s laws could use Parliament as their avenue to amend the legislation instead of taking to the streets in a show of force.
“We may be part of any party or organisation but that does not mean we abandon our conscience.
“All of us should never do that.
“Some things we support, other things we must oppose,” he said.
Bersih has clashed with the authorities on its plan to use Dataran Merdeka for its rally this Saturday.
Both the Home Ministry and KL City Hall have offered alternative venues, including Stadium Merdeka, which was Bersih’s choice of venue last year, but the election watchdog has rejected the suggestion, saying it had come at too short a notice.

SPR MENJAWAB FITNAH PEMBANGKANG - PART 7

Dakwaan 7
